ARMADALE Rotarian Craig Alford and a support team left Perth on Mondayto prepare for the final leg of their epic 15,000km journey around Australia on a ride-on lawnmower.

The team are heading to Katherine in the Northern Territory and are due to arrive there this weekend before getting ready to unload the Hustler Turf Equipment Super Z mower and head south, covering more than 4000km.

The crew will be guests of honour at the Katherine Rotary Club on Saturday night, before hitting the road on Sunday, aiming to arrive in Perth in mid-July.

Mr Alford started his adventure to ride around Australia five years ago to raise funds for several charities including Australian Rotary Health, the Royal Flying Doctor Service and Alzheimer’s Australia WA.

In April, he was one of only 100 Rotarians worldwide to receive this year’s Service Above Self Award.

Mr Alford said it was a great pleasure to be able to raise awareness and funds for the charities.

“Thank you to my amazing friends and supporters that have made this all possible,” he said.

The mower has travelled anti-clockwise around Australia over four annual legs.

Last year was the toughest so far, with the team covering 5175km from Junee to Darwin in 42 days.
