Armadale Shopping City Mall Walkers leg it to good times

Jessica WarrinerComment News

ABOUT 40 locals meet on Tuesday and Friday mornings at 7.30am at Armadale Shopping City for a walking workout.

The active Armadale seniors have been meeting twice a week for more than 10 years, first gathering for warm ups then taking off for laps of the mall.

Mall Walkers spokeswoman Norma Stone said the group, including some members in their 80s, usually does six laps of the mall, but there are no specific demands and walkers are free to go at their own pace.

“It’s more than just walking. The comradery is great, some of our members live alone so it gets them out of the house and we all encourage each other to gently improve our fitness and enjoy life more,” Ms Stone said.

“Many of our group have been here since day one so we’ve joined as strangers and become friends. We have coffee after the walk and out of the group friendships have been built. We’ve gone on social outings together like shows, and some of us have travelled together in WA and overseas.”

While the group is targeted at senior people, all are welcome to attend, and the Armadale Mall Walkers are always accepting new members.
