THE revitalisation of Mills Park has been recognised yet again, this time with an Australian Institute of Landscape Architects’ 2018 WA Landscape Architecture award.

The Infrastructure Landscape Architecture award acknowledged works that included the resolution of drainage issues, improvement of poorly performing vegetation areas and integrating these and other solutions into the design.

Judges praised the City of Gosnells and designer Cardno WA for the integration of green infrastructure during the hub’s recent revamp.

“The designers are acknowledged for their collaboration with stakeholders, including the Water Corporation, to implement strategies to manage stormwater run-off, harvest rainwater for aquifer recharge and irrigation use, re-use grey water, improve water quality and amend soil regimes to reduce water losses,” the award citation stated.

City of Gosnells mayor Glenn Dewhurst said they were proud of the landscaping and it was “particularly pleasing” to see it receive a number of accolades.

“It’s seeing the facility so well used throughout the year that is the biggest reward for the City,” he said.
