VOLUNTEERS are needed to help remove exotic weeds and protect pristine bushland at the Bungendore Park on Sunday, September 11.

Park management committee project officer Tony Clark said participants would also learn about the flora and fauna of the park before enjoying a nice morning tea at Settlers Common.

He said most weed control was done outside the park with a contractor spraying the weeds before they could enter the park.

“Some weeds come in by birds and in the fur of animals, so the Bushcare team from the City of Armadale identify an area which we can attack with a number of volunteers to clean out the worst of the weeds,” he said.

“They return to spray any seedlings which germinate after we remove the saplings and larger specimens.”

The walk and weed event will go from 8.30am-10am, meet at the entrance at the corner of Albany Highway and Dryandra Drive with appropriate footwear and clothing, including gardening gloves. Email Mr Clark on tony-clark@iinet.net.au for details.
