CHAMPION Lakes residents have been issued a bushfire advice alert.

Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) released the alert just before noon advising of a fire near the intersection of Champion Drive and Tonkin Highway.

Tonkin Highway has been closed in both directions as a result of the fire.

There is no immediate danger, but residents should be aware and stay up to date in case the situation changes.

People in the area bounded by Southern River Road, Corfield Street, Albany Highway and Westfield Road should be aware of smoke and be extremely careful when driving through the area.

DFES is managing the fire, the cause of which is unknown.
