A BYFORD family was unaware it was sitting on a winning Lotto ticket for weeks before claiming a $1.3 million prize.

The syndicate of five purchased the ticket from Haynes Good News Agency in Brookdale but forgot to check their ticket until recently.

The mother of the family said the win held special significance for the family members after her husband passed away recently.

“He was convinced we’d win big one day and we have great memories of him talking about his dream to win Lotto,” she said.

The mother gathered the family around the table and on the phone to tell them about the win at the same time.

“I was adamant to tell the family together,” she said.

“Everyone thought it was a joke and that I’d gone mad.”

She said there were tears of joy for the win while they reflected on the memories of their Lotto-dreaming husband and father.

The latest prize claim comes just weeks before one of the nation’s most anticipated Lotto events of the year – the $30 million Megadraw on Saturday, December 29.
