Ben SmithComment News

BYFORD Skate Park is now open after stage 1 of construction was completed.

The project was part of a $346,000 investment in youth infrastructure by Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale.

Local youths were involved in the design of the park, which offers ledge combos and a split-level quarter pipe.

Stage 2 of the facility will include the installation of safety lighting, shade , seating and a drinking fountain, with work to begin soon.

The Shire has planned an official community event and skate workshops to celebrate the opening of the park, which will be announced shortly.

Shire President John Erren said the skate park was another step towards creating spaces for youths to positively engage with our community.

“The Skate Park forms part of the exciting Briggs Park precinct which includes the SJ Community Recreation Centre, Briggs Park oval and the SJ Youth Room,” he said.

“Involving our kids in the design of their own space enables them to take ownership of it.”
