Francis CurroComment News

FORMER Prime Minister John Howard has backed Colin Barnett and the State Government’s preference deal with Pauline Hanson’s One Nation.

Mr Howard visited the Livingston Market Place in Canning Vale yesterday as part of the Liberal Party’s campaign for the March 11 State Election.

He was ushered around the centre along with Southern River MLA Peter Abetz and Jandakot MLA Joe Francis.

Residents were in awe of Mr Howard’s appearance with shoppers flocking to shake his hand, take photos and even give him a hug.

The Government struck a preference deal with One Nation early this week and Australia’s second longest serving Prime Minister said he would have done exactly the same deal if he were in Mr Barnett’s position.

“I think it’s entirely sensible, pragmatic and understandable,” he said.

“One Nation is supporting some of the things the Turnbull (Federal) Government is trying to get through.

“That doesn’t mean I agree with a lot of their policies.”
