Charges laid over shopping centre assaults

Armadale Detectives officer-in-charge Ray Horne said on January 2, a 25-year-old Armadale Shopping City security guard approached two males involved in an argument with a teenager.

Detective Senior Sergeant Horne said the teenager allegedly stabbed the security guard in the thigh when approached from behind.

Sgt Horne said nearly two months later, on February 25, the same security guard asked a man in a group of males to leave the area near an entrance to the shopping centre.

He alleged the man challenged his removal, threw a 20-cent coin at the security guard that cut his eyebrow, then punched him numerous times.

Sgt Horne said meanwhile, a number of people allegedly smashed windows with milk crates. Security cameras recorded the incident.

In relation to the February incident, Armadale Detectives arrested and charged a 25-year-old man with assault occasioning bodily harm and released him to protective bail.

He is due to appear in the Armadale Magistrates Court today.

Detectives also charged a 16-year-old boy with criminal damage and disorderly conduct and released him to a responsible person. He has received a summons to attend Armadale Children’s Court on April 15.

In relation to the January incident, detectives charged a 13-year-old boy with unlawful wounding.

They released him into the care of the Department of Child Protection and he is due to appear in the children’s court on March 25.

Inquiries are continuing.
