City of Gosnells mayor promotes yoga as part of mental health push

CITY of Gosnells Mayor Glenn Dewhurst has urged kids to take up yoga as a way to help maintain mental health.

Mayor Dewhurst joined children at Leisure World in Thornlie to promote the centre’s junior yoga program and encouraged youths to take up yoga to help manage stress.

He said he was keen to use his platform to bring mental health issues to the fore and encouraged residents to prioritise their mental wellbeing as they would their physical health.

“As adults, we tend to focus on our kids’ physical health but children too, need to know it’s OK to talk about and improve their mental health and learn techniques to do just that,” Mayor Dewhurst said.

Lesiure World holds half-hour sessions for kids between six and nine years on Wednesdays at 3.45pm, and 45-minute sessions for children aged 10 to 14 years on Wednesdays at 4.25pm.
