CITY of Gosnells will retain its single-ward system.
After almost two-hour’s debate last night , councillors voted to retain the single-ward system 8-4 with Terry Healy, Olwen Searle, Bill Wiffen and Pierre Yang voting against the motion.
Councillor Glenn Dewhurst said the majority of people did not care.
“We are not asking councillors to do it by themselves, we are going to do it as a team,” he said.
Cr Yang argued for a multi-ward system and said it would make councillors more accountable for their areas.
Council hosted a special electors meeting on July 19 and called for electors to make submissions.
Forty-eight people made submissions on the City’s electoral arrangements and all bar nine supported a multi-ward council .
Cr Healy said based on the submission the people of Gosnells wanted wards, but Cr David Goode said there was more than 123,000 people in the City of Gosnells and not even 50 people had made a submission.
