THE Champion Lakes Amphitheatre will be awash with music during a special collaborative performance between the Classic Sounds Orchestra and local school students.

The orchestra will be joined by young musicians from the new Challis Primary School string program, combining classics from musical theatre and folk as well as popular movie favourites in their performance.

Classic Sounds Orchestra musical director Rachel John said the sundowner was their first for 2018.

“We love the notion of combining outdoors with great music and the amphitheatre at Champion Lakes looks like the ideal venue and I don’t think many people even know it exists,” she said.

“So, we’re using the lake as the premise for our song choice which includes music from Pirates of the Caribbean and My Heart Will Go On from Titanic.”

She said they were excited to include the Challis Primary School students, who had only begun their strings program in October.

“The children can not get enough of their emersion in the world of music, they bound to the lessons and their minds are full of curiosity,” she said.

“It is a unique opportunity to combine children who are just starting out playing a string instrument, with an established local orchestra.”

Soprano Trish Di Giovanni will be a guest performer.

Attendees are invited to bring a picnic dinner and a rug for the performance, which kicks off at 5pm on February 17.

Tickets start from $10, with children under 11 free.
