Day care concerns in Thornlie

Francis CurroComment News

The day care, proposed at Jacqueline Drive in Thornlie, was given the green light unanimously by council, although it raised some issues.

The next door neighbour of the day care, Mary McDonald, spoke up during question time at the council meeting on September 22, saying she objected to the long hours and the fact that it would operate six days a week.

She said the outdoor play area would cause noise that would impact amenity.

City officers said the play area was located in accordance with the guidelines.

The day care is proposed to be open from 6am to 7pm on Monday to Friday and 7am to 6pm on Saturdays.

Councillor Wayne Barrett said he understood the concerns but it did “fit all planning policies”.

Cr Olwen Searle said the 6am to 7pm on weekdays was overkill as it was hard work and people needed time to clean up.
