Displays to encourage reading at Southern River College

Francis CurroComment News

The college suffered damage to its library after a flooding during term two.

The library was closed and computers were damaged which, according to teachers, affected the students greatly.

Teachers have been working to get the library up and running again.

Among other things, they put together a Halloween display to get the students back into books.

“In this modern day hi-tech world it is very difficult to get kids interested in books,” college library officer Shannon Warwick said.

“We have found through our displays that students who wouldn’t look twice at a book are now stopping to check them out and have a flick through.”

The display has been selected by the West Australian School Library Association to go into its scholarly journal.
