The 41-year-old mother-of-two is also marking the 32nd anniversary of her mother’s death from cervical cancer this year by hosting a Pink Event on December 1, and a sausage sizzle at Harvey Norman Armadale on November 16.
‘I started the year wanting to be positive and I lost 23kg and decided I would shave my head to donate 33cm of hair,’ she said.
Ms Kirby said it was the first time she had ever shaved her head and would have felt more disappointed if she had donated the minimum 20cm requirement.
‘I’m nervous in a way but I’m determined to do it and my boys are a bit nervous about it,’ she said.
Ms Kirby’s aunt is a breast cancer survivor and she encouraged women to be aware of changes in their bodies and to schedule regular checks.
