The church is commemorating the 30th anniversary of the current building’s opening, while also celebrating what would have been their previous church’s 90th anniversary.

Priest in charge Richard Minol said both churches had grand histories and revealed a few surprises along the way.

“When they demolished the old church (in 1987), they found a capsule filled with memorabilia built into a brick wall, which had been there since 1926,” he said.

“There were several coins, a couple of newspaper articles including one from edition 54 of the Church News, a big scrolled up piece of paper, and a farthing minted in 1884.

“It was an incredible find.”

The Reverend Minol said their special anniversary communion service on May 21 would feature Bishop Kate Willmot of the Perth Diocese.

“We’ll be giving thanks for the past heritage we’ve inherited and the vision of the earlier ministers. The main point is giving thanks to God for the faith and church continuing in the area and we want to see our community continue to grow.”
