Police said he ran into the path of a Toyota Yaris, being driven by a man in his 40s, which stopped.

The boy allegedly tried to take the keys from the ignition through an open window on the driver’s side of the car.

He allegedly reached across the driver to take a mobile phone from the centre console while the driver tried to push him out of the car.

Police said during this time, the driver was punched multiple times to the head, causing a laceration to the inside of his cheek and facial cuts and swelling.

It is alleged the boy took the phone, ran to a nearby park and was apprehended by members of the public before he was arrested by police.

The driver was conveyed by St John Ambulance to Armadale Hospital for treatment.

The 17-year-old boy has been charged with trespass and aggravated robbery.

He will appear in the Perth Children’s Court today.
