Elder Robert Isaacs adds Order of Australia award to list of achievements

Dr Isaacs was the 2015 West Australian of the Year, Honorary Freeman of the City of Gosnells and won the 2015 Aboriginal Award at the WA Day Festival. He has spent the past 50 years helping improve the lives of the disadvantaged and Aboriginal people.

His latest honour comes as part of the Queen’s Birthday honours list.

A member of the Stolen Generation, he was the first Aboriginal person to be elected to local government as a councillor and served as a deputy mayor.

One of his other achievements included helping establish the Clontarf Aboriginal College in Waterford.

The award given to Dr Isaacs was for significant service to the indigenous community through the advancement of social justice, education, health and housing initiatives and to reconciliation.
