BARRY Winmar has been announced as the Labor Candidate to run against Andrew Hastie for the Federal seat of Canning.
The Greens have also announced their candidate for the Federal seat to be Aeron Blundell-Camden.
The Federal Election will be held on July 2 with WA expected to be a key battleground for both the Liberal and Labor parties.
Andrew Hastie has only held the seat for a short time after he won a by-election in September last year after Don Randall passed away on July 21.
Mr Hastie ran successfully against Matt Keogh in that election; Mr Keogh is now the Labor Candidate for Burt.
Mr Winmar, a former police officer, said he was keen to have a real impact at the local level.
“I know that access to a proper education gives young people the opportunity to rise above their circumstances and reach their potential,” he said.
“Working in Canning as Fairbridge Bindjareb project manager I know what this community needs from a federal government.”
