Fire crews battling blaze at Hilbert rubbish tip

CITY of Armadale residents have been warned to be careful of smoke as firefighters battle a blaze at a rubbish tip in Hilbert.

The fire at the tip on Hopkinson Road was first reported at 2.57pm and firefighters are working to contain and control the fire.

People in the vicinity of the rubbish tip may be impacted by smoke and some roads may be closed, with motorists asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and be aware of fire and other emergency services personnel.

Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) have advised people to stay away from the area and those already in the area should take advice from emergency services personnel.

DFES said people in the area should remain inside, out of the smoke or fumes, with doors and windows closed, while air conditioners should also be switched off and people with medical concerns should contact their local doctor.
