FORMER Darling Range MLA Barry Urban will face court today, charged with 12 fraud offences.

The 49-year-old, who was initially a WA Labor MP before turning independent, was charged last month with uttering a forged record, attempted fraud and forging a record related to information he allegedly provided during applications involving the WA Police Force.

He also faces charges of giving false evidence before a parliamentary committee.

The maximum penalty is seven years imprisonment.

Urban will face Perth Magistrates Court later on Tuesday.

Mr Urban quit the Labor Party last November and resigned from Parliament in May, after allegations were made he had lied about his education and work experience.

A Parliamentary inquiry into Mr Urban led to police launching a criminal investigation.
