Funding fillip for growing town

The Byford Town Centre access and safety project has received $5.68 million under round two of the Australian Government’s National Stronger Regions Fund.

Federal Member for Canning Andrew Hastie said part of the much-needed funding would go towards the upgrade of Abernethy Road.

“Byford is growing at a rapid rate,” he said.

“Upgrading Abernethy Road to a dual carriageway will considerably improve access to the town site, opening up growth opportunities for businesses and increasing exposure.”

Serpentine Jarrahdale Shire President John Erren said the Shire was the fastest growing community in the country.

“Receiving this $5.68 million from the Federal Government’s National Stronger Regions Fund for the Abernethy Road upgrade will make this busy area of our shire safer for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists,” he said.

Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss and Assistant Minister Michael McCormack announced a total of $293 million for projects that were successful under the National Stronger Regions Fund.
