MORE than a thousand new native seedlings will call the Gosnells foreshore home after a big planting event next month.

The community planting day will be held as part of the national Bushcare’s Big Day Out event, with the Armadale-Gosnells Landcare Group and the Friends of Astley Street River Park coming together with volunteers to plant 1500 native seedlings.

Gosnells mayor Glenn Dewhurst said residents of all ages could get involved in the family and environmentally friendly day.

“Bushcare’s Big Day Out is a good excuse to get outdoors, get grubby and do something positive for our natural environment,” he said.

“We’re heading to the Astley Street Foreshore Reserve in Gosnells, where we will be planting 1,500 native seedlings along the foreshore.

“This work will be a great boost to the plantings that have been done in the area over the past two years.”

Those interested in volunteering are asked to bring their own gloves, water, sturdy shoes and suitable clothing.

Bushcare’s Big Day Out is on September 16 from 9am to 12pm at the Astley Street Foreshore Reserve.
