Gosnells and Armadale named among Western Power’s top 10 solar suburbs

SUBURBS throughout the cities of Gosnells and Armadale have been named in Western Power’s top ten solar suburbs.

The list revealed which suburbs had the most photovoltaic (PV) solar units connected to Western Power’s network.

Canning Vale was the third top community for solar energy connections, while the Armadale and Forrestdale region was fifth, with the Gosnells, Southern River and Huntingdale region ninth.

Beckenham and Kenwick were also part of Queens Park region, which finished 13th.

Mandurah topped the list with more than 9100 |registered units, nearly |40 per cent more than second-placed Wanneroo. There are currently more than 210,000 solar units connected to Western Power’s network, which has an installed capacity of 680 megawatts, roughly equivalent to one-and-a-half times the biggest fossil-fuelled power station in WA.

A Western Power spokesperson said it had experienced more than a 20 per cent increase in PV solar panel connections over the past five years and had slowly adapted its policy to help connect customers.

“In the past year, we have removed red tape and outdated standards that affected customers connecting PV solar panels whilst maintaining our focus on safety,” they said.
