Gosnells: Ashburton Drive PS students clown around with Amaroo Village residents

Jessica NicoComment News

CLOWNS, puppets and choiristers entertained residents at Amaroo Village on Friday during a visit from local primary school students.

After spending weeks honing their performance skills in singing, puppetry and general clowning around, more than 40 Ashburton Drive Primary School students took their acts to the village to perform for a group of seniors.

Ashburton Drive PS music teacher Nelomie Ranasinghe said it was a good opportunity for the students to do something good for someone else.

“The students sang and danced to a repertoire of 10 songs from the 1960s to the present day,” she said.

“We invited the residents at Amaroo to sing along to some of the songs with the children and we also stayed behind for half an hour to chat and share experiences with the residents after the performance.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to give without expecting anything in return.

“There is also so much that can be learnt from the older generation that children today could gain much from interactions with them.”
