They received a double dose of good news when they were named Club of the Year in the ‘small’ category.

President Peter Charkiewicz said he was “over the moon” to see the club recognised once again.

“To win it once is a significant achievement, but to win four in a row is great for our club members to feel part of a successful club,” he said.

Mr Charkiewicz said the club’s membership had doubled in the last five years and paid tribute to the members and volunteers who deserved credit for the club’s success.

“I’d like to commend the members and the management we have at the moment,” he said.

“I’ve been president for five years and the management committee I have, the majority have stayed with me and have committed to more as long as I stay, which is great for the club because then there’s some sort of consistency.

“I’d like to thank our members, committee, regular volunteers and the guests who come along on a Friday night who aren’t members.”

Mr Charkiewicz said the club’s warm and inviting atmosphere would ensure it continued to run strongly in years to come.

“I feel there’s a very friendly atmosphere when we get new members come into the club and we make a point of speaking to them and making them feel welcome,” he said.
