Gosnells: Dowitcher Loop gets brand new park after sisters’ petition

Ben SmithComment News

TWO Gosnells sisters who petitioned for a park on their street have finally seen their dream come true.

Alicia and Mia Ward gathered 45 signatures from their neighbours on Dowitcher Loop in an effort to liven up their neighbourhood and brighten up the previously undeveloped land.

The City of Gosnells were already in the process of approving upgrades to the park when they received the petition, however the sisters’ efforts proved the park’s value to the local community.

Gosnells Mayor Glenn Dewhurst said the park featured a railway theme due to its close proximity to Gosnells Station.

“The railway theme incorporated in the Dowitcher Loop Reserve upgrade really gives the park a greater connection with the surrounding environment and creates a strong sense of place for the community,” he said.

“Increasing residential density in the area means nearby backyards are getting smaller, so this park will be more and more important as a space for children to play in the future.”
