GOSNELLS Golf Club is more of a battler’s club according to their club captain.

But it is their strong team spirit and camaraderie that has seen the club win three titles in the past six years.

Club captain Andrew Woods said the club could not afford to buy good players and would rather use its homegrown talent.

“We are not a club with rich deep pockets that can attract players to be there; we are a battler’s club,” he said.

“Some clubs try and recruit other players; we don’t bother with that. We are a worker’s club that goes out and does what we need to do.

“If we are good enough, we are good enough to win.” Wood said he wanted to keep the trophy where it rightfully belongs.

He said the key to winning was a good team spirit.

“We have all been around long enough. We enjoy each other’s company and you have seven guys that are generally friends that want to be there and want to play golf and win for the club,” he said.

“I have been in teams with good players and not great team spirit and this has great team spirit and a good bunch of players.”
