THE Gosnells Hotel played host to Nashos WA’s mid-year reunion for returned servicemen last weekend.

Over 50 ex-national servicemen and their partners gathered to reunite with old friends, remember those who had gone before them and enjoy a pleasant meal and drink amongst former colleagues.

Nashos WA founder Bob McGuire said the mid-year reunion was important as it gave former servicemen a chance to see their friends and even make some new ones.

“It’s important to keep up the friendship amongst the ex-national servicemen. After 40 odd years, a couple of them may not have seen their mates since their service ended.

“A few new people joined us, we sat them down amongst people to form their own mateships and by the end of the day they’re laughing and joking, because they’ve got new mates.”

Nashos WA started with just five members in 2008, but their mid-year reunion has become an important event to their growing membership.

“We need to keep in touch with our mates, when you see them face-to-face, you know how well they are,” Mr McGuire said.
