Amy McKieComment News

THE story of Thelma and Louise hit close to home in Gosnells when two women answered the call of the open road with their motorbikes, deciding to travel across Australia.

Gosnells’ Walking Group members Wendy Hudson (64) and Rachelle (71) set off on April 14.

Their plan was to make it to Melbourne and back again.

Journeying 8701 kilometres on a 1300CC Yamaha V Star Cruiser and an 865cc Triumph Bonneville, the women travelled by day, stopping at various points along the way.

They crossed the Nullarbor, passing through South Australia to Melbourne and then on to Canberra.

The next leg of the trip was to Cooma where they spent a couple of days with a relative.

From there they rode through Tumut, over the Snowy Mountains to Wagga Wagga, on to Mildura, into South Australia and then back to Gosnells – arriving on May 10.

The pair defied the various weather predictions – from hot days to soaking rains and strong winds – that threatened to drive them off the road, but made it home in style.
