Grand opening for Armadale weekly market in February

Sophie MooreComment News

AN Armadale weekly market will have its grand opening on Sunday, February 5.

Marquee Markets will be open every Sunday in the Jull Street Mall from 8am to 11am.

Markets manager Melissa Smith said she approached the City of Armadale about holding the market because she was tired of making the trek to Gosnells.

“There’s nothing here that’s held on a regular basis and we’re supposed to be a tourist precinct,” she said.

The local mother and business owner said she wanted to bring the community together to share and enjoy handmade, personalised products.

The City gave Mrs Smith approval to hold the markets last week.

“I put up just one Facebook post and got 35 replies from people interested in being stallholders,” she said.

Mrs Smith has been filtering applicants with a preference for local, small or home businesses.

“For the grand opening I have an animal photographer, aromatherapy, cards, a coffee stand, a man who makes planter boxes and fresh produce,” she said.

Stallholders will be setting up at 7am, with visitors allowed in for free from 8am.
