GYMNASTS from the Gosnells PCYC gym program are in a sea of gold after taking home more than 80 medals from the state PCYC Gymnastics final.

The team came home with 24 gold medals, 31 silver medals and 31 bronze from the final at the Fremantle PCYC from September 25 to 28.

Only a handful of the 41 gymnasts who attended from Gosnells PCYC did not win a medal.

About 450 competitors from 12 clubs across WA competed in the final.

Gosnells PCYC gymnastics head coach Nia McCully was rapt with the amount of medals they received.

“We never expected to win that; we just go in and do our best,” she said.

“This is the best we have ever done.”

To be invited to the finals gymnasts had to finish in the top eight for their age group for their apparatus and all round at previous competitions.

McCully said most of the gymnasts were from the Gosnells and outlying areas, with a handful coming from Armadale and some even from Baldivis.

Last year the Gosnells PCYC entered 30 competitors who won 12 gold medals.

Gosnells PCYC also came home with a few awards from the PCYC annual general meeting.

It was named best metropolitan centre and best youth at risk program for its program Full Throttle.
