Harrisdale pharmacist has the perfect medicine for those who need a smile

IF laughter is the best medicine, then Harrisdale pharmacist Phil Tomazin has all the medication you need.

The Harrisdale Discount Drug Store proprietor is a member on the Harrisdale and Piara Waters chat group on Facebook and posts daily jokes, which bring a chuckle and smile to locals.

“Local chat sites are good for the community but the bad and sad news stories can be depressing,’’ he said.

“There are so many stories of break-ins and theft and I remember someone saying they wanted to see jokes and I thought I can do that.”

Little did Phil know, his posts would make him a local celebrity, with members of the public actually going into his pharmacy just to say hi.

“It has been quite surprising,’’ he said.

“There has been so many people who have come in and as they walk past say ‘Hi there, I love the jokes’.

“The fact that they go out of their way to make the point makes my day.”

Member Francis Allen recently thanked Phil for his efforts to lift people’s mood and brighten their day.

His post gained more than 200 likes and quickly generated comments from other locals who felt the same way.

Phil said his Dad jokes seemed to get the most response.

“This one got the most likes so I assume this is the best of my material to date: Just read a book on marriage that says treat your wife like you treated her on the first date. So after dinner tonight…I’m dropping her off at her parent’s house,” he said.

Phil said he has always had a good sense of humour, and being a pharmacist he stood by the motto that laughter was indeed the best medicine.

“The endorphin relief from a good laugh can’t be beaten and if a short post on a community Facebook page can help make someone’s day even a little bit better then it is well worth the effort,’’ he said.

He said the best part is that other members have also begun sharing their jokes on the chat site.

“What disappoints me is that they all seem to be better than mine,’’ he said.
