The club has to raise $200,000 by June so its track can be rebuilt about 200m south of its current location at Briggs Park in Byford.
The Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale needs the club’s land as it plans to extend Briggs Park to cater for more sporting facilities.
Last year, the shire committed $300,000 for the track relocation, but said the club would need to raise an additional $300,000 for the project.
Byford BMX Club fundraising co-ordinator Anne Williams said club members had held fundraisers for the past six months, but now needed to look for corporate and private sponsorship for financial support.
‘As a club, we are currently facing a huge challenge,’ she said.
‘Byford BMX Club has been part of the sporting community in Byford since 1983. As we need to reposition the track, the shire along with the Byford BMX Club members see this as the perfect time to provide Byford and Western Australia with a UCI quality BMX facility.’
Byford BMX Club has always been regarded as a popular sports facility in the shire.
It has 100 active members, who race each Friday night.
The club provides more than 40 race nights a year and hosts coaching clinics, super series (inter-club) racing and come-and-try days to encourage participation.
The track is also open to the public and is well-utilised by young people in the community.
Mrs Williams said sponsorship packages would include naming rights to the track (subject to shire approval), naming rights to the bitumen berms on the track or onsite signage depending on the level of sponsorship. This would be in addition to media coverage and recognition in the club newsletters, social media and web page.
In terms of the land development, the club is asking for donations of base material (4000cu m), the use of mobile plant machinery, electrical work, patio construction, landscaping or a financial contribution.
