Jessica NicoComment News

A NUMBER of dangerous roads throughout the southeast will be fixed under the 2018/19 State Black Spot Program.

Seventeen local projects will share in almost $1.5m under the recent funding allocation, including $450,000 for the Albany Highway-Fremantle Road intersection in Gosnells and $150,000 for the Thomas Road-Kargotich Road intersection in Oakford, both for safety improvements.

Transport minister Rita Saffioti said more than 100 upgrades worth $25 million will be carried out in the coming months.

“The Black Spot Program is a joint state-local government initiative, and is delivering real safety benefits to road users,” she said.

“The State provides two-thirds of the funds for safety improvement projects on local roads with local governments funding the remaining one third.

“Since its inception in 2000, it has delivered $450 million in specific safety initiatives on the WA road network for drivers, motorcyclists, cyclists and pedestrians.

“It aims to further improve road safety across the State, thereby reducing the significant trauma and suffering of crash victims and their loved ones.”
