IF it wasn’t well known before it definitely is now-three of WA’s best pies can be found in the heart of Kelmscott.
Four Seasons Patisserie Bakery Cafe has taken out three categories at the recent West Australian Baking Industry Awards, with the judges dubbing their meat pie, chicken vegetable pie and apple pie as the best the state has to offer.
It also came second in the caramel slice, apple strudel bar and fruit mince slice categories.
It complements a string of recent awards for the small bakery, which also took out seven gold medals at last year’s Official Great Aussie Pie competition in Melbourne.
Four Seasons pie maker Andy Le, who opened the Kelmscott-based bakery six years ago, said the secret behind his amazing pies was cooking everything from scratch with home made pastry and baking fresh everyday.
“The key to making a good pie is always use good quality meat,” he said.
“The pies have to be slow cooked with balanced flavours and seasoning, not too salty, not too sweet.
“What I make for the shows is what I sell because I want the customers to enjoy the winning pies.”
