A 33-year-old Kelmscott man is in hospital after he crashed his vehicle in to a tree on Brookton Highway last night.

About 11.20pm on Thursday, police attempted to stop a blue Mitsubishi Magna on Digby Street in Gosnells.

The vehicle failed to stop and evaded police through suburbs and on to Brookton Highway, with Police Air wing assisting.

It is alleged the vehicle was travelling at excessive speed through Ashendon near Flint when lost control and crashed in to the tree.

The driver, who was the only occupant of the car, sustained serious, non-life threatening injuries.

He was taken to Royal Perth Hospital where he is in a stable condition.

Inquiries are ongoing.
