WHEN Kenwick resident Leonie Dobrowolski was tasked with creating a painting for the Rotary Club of Perth’s 90th anniversary, her brief was simple.
Mrs Dobrowolski, an experienced artist who has contributed to sold-out exhibitions in places as far-flung as Hong Kong, was simply told to think about what best represented WA.
From there, she took the concept and had free reign to capture the state’s glorious features in whatever way she thought best, while also giving it a rotary feel.

READ NOW“They realised you don’t tell an artist how to do it,” she said.
“I knew I had to have the rotary wheel in the painting, so I used it as the sun.
“I had it descending a warm glow all over the city and I considered that the warm glow of rotary goodness.”
Using oil paint for her masterpiece, she also opted for a Belgian linen canvas, what she considers to be amongst the finest materials to work on.
Mrs Dobrowolski, who also designed a banner for the club, said while the work was repetitive, not once did it feel like a chore.

Rotary Club of Perth president Larry Hirsch said he was delighted with her creations.
“Both the painting and the new banners represent the future direction and energy of Rotary as it continues doing amazing community projects – here and overseas.”
