A LANGFORD primary school has received a prestigious honour after they were named one of the best in the state.

Brookman Primary School is one of four finalists in the 2018 Education Awards’ Primary School of the Year category, alongside Allendale PS in Geraldton, Kingston PS and Balga’s Warriapendi PS.

Brookman principal Hans Geers said it was recognition for the hard work that had gone into providing a great learning environment for their students.

“Near the end of 2017 Brookman was acknowledged for its STEM practices in winning the ‘Meritorious Award’ for Leadership in the Governor’s Primary STEM Awards and we were the only state school to be in the list of finalists,” he said.

“Brookman PS is the only metropolitan state school to be a Teacher Development School for 2018-19 and, in the key areas of literacy and numeracy, the school utilises whole school evidence based approaches through a differentiated curriculum to meet the diverse needs of its students.

“The school is making a difference and has achieved excellence within its context.”

He added they were “tremendously proud and chuffed” to be named a finalist.

“This will be a tremendous boost for the whole Brookman community,” he said.

“With families and students coming from over 40 cultures, it is important that our students and families understand what they are capable of and to have the self-confidence and self-belief to tackle all before them.

“Achieving finalist status brings us closer to making that realisation a reality.”

Winners will be announced on November 26.
