Langford church bringing Christmas cheer to those who need it most

C3 Langford Church is on a mission to make sure no one eats alone this Christmas – but they need your help to make it happen.

The church is fundraising for their ‘Donate a Plate’ campaign, which will see them provide Christmas dinner for roughly 500 underprivileged people on December 18.

Community pastor Lisa Whittle said the church wanted to turn their usual community dinner into a large-scale event to end the year on a high note.

“Our fortnightly dinners normally finish early December for a Christmas wind up and we get an insane amount of people,” she said.

“This year, we’ve had influx of homeless and lonely people, people with no family and it felt right to do an actual Christmas dinner.”

Ms Whittle said they were fundraising to secure caterers for the Christmas dinners and just $25 would help feed two people.

“You can donate a plate, then we’ll put your name on a plate and you’ll know you donated to these people to eat at Christmas,” she said.

The church will also be running a Giving Tree over the holiday season to help those less fortunate.

“We gather information from people and families in need and convert it into a card that has gender and age on it and place it on our Christmas tree,” she said.

“We have about 200 names, the people from our church pick these tags off of the tree, go and buy the gift and bring it back to the church.

“The remaining tags left on the tree we will purchase as a church, then the week of Christmas we wrap them, put them into family groups and suburbs along with food hampers and deliver these gifts around the suburbs of Perth.
