Langford’s Grady Toomath wins Tafe award

A LANGFORD engineering student has claimed Challenger Institute of Technology’s prestigious Aboriginal Student of the Year Award.

Grady Toomath (21) received the award at Challenger Institute’s Student Awards Ceremony in Fremantle on April 6.

The ceremony recognised the achievements of more than 60 students from across the Institute, as well as five major award winners in the categories Aboriginal Student of the Year, Apprentice of the Year, Trainee of the Year, Vocational Student of the Year and Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Schools Student of the Year.

Applying his keen interest in mathematics and electrical principles, Mr Toomath completed the Advanced Diploma of Engineering Technology – Electrical.

With a focus on the emerging field of mechatronics, Mr Toomath is now on course to fulfil a life-long ambition to work in an industry that operates robotic equipment.

Mr Toomath is also interested in aviation and sustainable development in the mining and oil and gas sectors and would like to be on the forefront of new developments and innovations in these fields.

“It has been a life-long ambition of mine to work in an industry that operates robotic equipment and through my studies at Challenger I feel this goal is attainable,” Mr Toomath said.

Lecturer Diego Musca said Mr Toomath had displayed enormous mental strength and determination to complete his studies.

“Grady has developed into a real leader and is now a graduate with a keen interest in automated work practices.”
