Mr Griffiths was one of 29 people who put their hand up for council positions.

Seven people will be elected to the council, with six of them having their terms expiring on October 19, 2019, and one expiring on October 21, 2017.

Deputy Mayor Ron Mitchell and current councillors Glenn Dewhurst, Wayne Barrett and Russell Lawrence have also all opted to run again.

Cr Ron Hoffman is the only councillor who has not put his hand up to be re-elected out of those whose term expires on October 17.
