Last days to have say on Gosnells council wards

Francis CurroComment News

COUNCILLOR Glenn Dewhurst says 98 per cent of Gosnells residents don’t care about wards and he thinks the city should remain a one-ward system.

The City of Gosnells held a special electors meeting on July 19 about wards.

The city has a one-ward system, but a petition was submitted last year asking the council to go back to a multi-wards system.

Cr Dewhurst has been strongly opposed to the change and said today’s technology made it easy for people to get in contact with councillors.

“I have spoken to more than 600 residents and 98 per cent don’t care,” he said.

Councillor Terry Healy said he was leaning towards the multi-ward system, but awaiting public submissions before he made a decision.

Cr Healy said residents at the meeting were strongly in favour of wards.

“I was quite impressed that a clear majority of people on Tuesday supported a move back to wards,” he said.
