The Department of Agriculture’s Ernie Steiner is the community liaison officer for fruit fly and will offer a variety of ways to control Medfly.

These methods include traps, exclusion strategies and spraying.

Mr Steiner will also discuss the fruit fly sterile insect program.

Lisa Porter of the Roleystone Organic Growers said stone fruit trees could be particularly difficult to grow free of fruit fly in Perth where Medfly populations were high, and said backyard fruit could be a significant source of Medfly to commercial orchards where they occurred close together.
