Previously it was held by Labor’s Andrew Waddell with a margin of 0.2 per cent, but Nathan Morton said yesterday morning, with 78.5 per cent of the vote counted, that the margin looked more like 1.7 per cent in his favour.
On Monday morning, two-party preferred figures showed Mr Morton had 51.7 per cent of votes and Mr Waddell 48.3 per cent.
Voting results show the Southern River electorate will be retained by the Liberals’ Peter Abetz.

Mr Tallentire was challenged by Liberal David Goode, two independents, an Australian Christian Party candidate and a Greens candidate.
Results by candidate showed Mr Goode held 38.6 per cent of votes in Gosnells when 77.4 per cent of votes were counted yesterday.
Labor’s Tony Buti will safely retain the seat of Armadale and Liberal Tony Simpson will again hold Darling Range.
About 78 per cent of votes were counted in these two seats yesterday morning.
