THE six Indigenous seasons have been depicted in a new series of murals unveiled at Bramfield Park Primary School.
Indigenous artists Michelle and Dennis Kickett worked alongside staff and students at the Maddington school to design and develop the project, which artistically portrays the Noongar seasons of Birak, Bunuru, Djeran, Makuru, Djilba and Kambarang, as well as the Wargal, or rainbow serpent.
Bramfield Park PS Aboriginal Education lead teacher Robyn Bailey said the mural themes were chosen to reflect on the depth of Aboriginal culture.
“They show a deep understanding of the climate and the flora and fauna of the land, and how it was managed and sustained for future generations,” she said.

READ NOW“Over the past year three students have contributed to each panel of the mural, working alongside our resident professional artists to assist in the completion of the artworks.
“The murals will enable student to understand the six seasons and Wargal story and will form a basis for future cultural work with the students listening to the Wargal story and learning about the spirituality of Aboriginal totems.
“The Bramfield Park Primary School community are excited about this artistic project and its ability to create an opportunity to move towards being a more culturally responsive school.”
