MADDINGTON’S Weston Street Reserve is the latest park to undergo a makeover as part of the City of Gosnells’ Public Open Space (POS) strategy.
The City completed a significant upgrade, adding new play equipment, seating, shade and a path.
The park now has about 8000sq m of space with the addition of an extensive grassed area for ball games. The basketball facilities have also been updated.

Mulch was used under the trees to reduce the amount of scheme water used for irrigation.
The park is within the boundaries of the Central Maddington Outline Development Plan, which means it will become a centrepiece in the area, which is expected to change from large single lots to high-density housing in the future.
As part of the POS strategy, the City has upgraded 13 parks, sold five parcels of land to fund park redevelopment worth $8.7 million and acquired eight lots to increase park development size between 2011 and 2017.
The strategy has just completed its first six-year phase.
As part of the project, the City held extensive community consultation to evaluate where the best locations to redevelop would be and considered factors such as the quality and number of nearby parks and how a better-designed park would meet the needs of more residents.
