A 23-year-old man has been charged with a series of offences after an alleged road-rage attack on a bus in Maddington.

It will be alleged that just before midday on Tuesday a black Holden Captiva sedan pulled in front of a Transperth bus on Alcock Street and stopped.

This caused the driver of the bus to stop suddenly.

The male driver of the vehicle got out and, brandishing an edged weapon, began shouting at the driver.

The man struck the bus windscreen, breaking the glass and causing shards to fly into the bus, hitting the driver who needed medical treatment.

The 23-year-old man from Maddington was arrested a short time later.

He was charged with being armed in a way that may cause fear, criminal damage, common assault, no authority to drive and assaulting a public officer.

He was due to appear in Armadale Magistrates Court on August 16.
