Manager Maria Cavill said that for years, the centre’s Aboriginal name meant many believed they were ineligible for its financial counselling and community services.
‘William Henry Langford, or Bill, who Boogurlarri is going to be named after, was born at the Dog Swamp, a pioneering location north of Perth,’ she said.
‘He served in the local council for 42 years. Langford was named after him.’
Several of Mr Langford’s descendants attended the ceremony, as did service providers, residents, representatives of the State Government, City of Gosnells and Ruah Community Services, Cannington MLA Bill Johnston and Brookman Primary School principal Hans Geers.
