Stig Wemyss ably satisfied these while visiting Armadale library last week, on a tour that took him all over Perth.

Schoolchildren filled the library with more noise than ever heard there before, as they met the man who gives voice to noted authors such as Andy Griffiths, Morris Gleitzman, Tim Winton, Paul Jennings and Marcus Zusak.

The children showed that they knew what a narrator was (‘someone who reads the books while someone records it at the same time’), and learned the role of a producer (stand next to the narrator and yell ‘Wrong! Do it again. Idiot’ if they make a mistake.)

Wemyss, who began his career as a film and television actor, eventually discovered the joys of acting with his voice alone.

‘I’ve always looked for different strings to my bow and have always loved the medium of audio ” it’s theatre of the mind,’ he says.

‘So I started reading books to blind kids for Vision Australia, as a volunteer, and also did it as a way of developing characters. ‘I quickly discovered that I was actually quite good at it ‘
